Well this is probably the last post on this side of the holidays. I am writing by fairy lights – standing up in my living room. The wind is howling outside. I suppose it’s too much to ask for to see some nice white stuff in the AM. Maybe in 2015?
Red Band Society
My friend told me to check out a new TV show called The Red Band Society. I had no idea what it was but I did follow up her recommendation. It’s an interesting show about kids (teenagers) in a hospital and the highs and lows of their incarceration by disease. It boasts a good cast of young actors and a few familiar faces too – not to mention a pretty stellar soundtrack on each of the episodes I’ve seen thus far. Strange how many shows there seem to be about illness – in particular Cancer: ‘The Big C’ for one – ‘Chasing Life’ for another. In any event, it’s worth a watch if you’re into that sort of thing. Good family drama as it were.
Highs and Lows of Younique By Thea
It’s been a challenging week on the Younique By Thea front. Not with my own stuff but with my team’s. One in particular has been very unlucky on the Younique front, but she’s also sold more mascara then the rest of our “company” combined. Thankfully I stocked up on these lovely 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras as I suspected they’d be “in demand” if not from my own circles than my team’s. Good thing I did. All just about appear to be spoken for.
To help my Younique business, I’ve been the process of reading a variety of books on Direct Marketing and Selling. Things like ‘Go Pro’ by Eric Worre and ‘Duct Tape Selling’ by John Jantsch. There are so many great resources out there from other, Black Status especially, Younique presenters – so learning what I can from them too. But I think what attracts me most to Younique, beyond getting paid daily, playing with great makeup etc – is its flexibility. In other words what works for one Younique presenter won’t necessarily work for others.
So I am writing my own training for my own – #TheATeam. It will be ready for the time the next batch of recruits come on board to my team! Well that’s the theory anyway. As I say, learning as much as I can on all fronts. Every day’s a school day! Until next time…
Tomorrow’s my last day of training! Well for 2014 anyway…I do have some dates booked for 2015 already, but I will be doing a lot less “group training” and more 1-2-1 training next year. Well, that’s the intention anyway. Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans though right? Was that John Lennon who said that? Anyway tomorrow is Trading online for NSDesign and Business Gateway. It’s a fun one. I am looking forward to it! Always have such a fabulous group of Scottish Businesses on every one of my courses. Blessed that way!
It’s been a busy time dealing with taxes (yay….not!), selling mascaras (!) and training both in groups and individually. tonight I actually pulled out my craft box and had a play at making labels for the Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras. They’ve been selling like hotcakes and at this time of year they’re no doubt either going to be for Christmas Parties (or holiday parties) or for presents…So I thought I’d spruce them up a wee bit.
More blog posts about my Younique adventure can be found over on Glatitude in a new weekly series I am now calling My Week in Younique. I’d like to get this blog back to more general stuff and have that site be more of the work stuff. That gives me the freedom to talk about whatever strikes my fancy – work – music – life – films…
NETWORKING IN GLASGOW
I was up early (for me) to do a bit of Networking at the Business Banter in town. Speaking to David from Zude PR – he reminds me I never did write the Part 2 of my “Networking in Glasgow – Part 1″post. I really ought to get around to doing that…Maybe I’ll try over the holidays. I guess I am a little out of touch as work has gotten in the way so I’ve not done much networking…apart from at the ones already listed on that blog, that is.
I’ve actually been thinking of going to CES againin 2015. I learned a few things by going this year that I could adapt should I return again. Plus it’s always fun to look at the latest tech and gadgets. Should I or shouldn’t I? That is the question! You can take the girl out of Silicon Valley but you can’t….
I guess that’s all. If you someone that knows me and actually likes me – feel free to shop at my Younique by Thea site and help me get to Pink (so close I can taste it)…If you’re not someone who likes me, then I’m not really sure why you’re here! Though I suspect there are a few of you Thea-haters out there doing a bit of snooping…well, happy holidays friend or foe! Ta ta!
So I was teaching the Improve your Search Engine Rankings today and rather embarrassingly showed my blog (to illustrate the difference of landing on a “home” page versus a latest posts page) and realized I’ve not updated for a month. How on earth did that happen?
I’ve been getting my head down and building my Younique Businessfor the last five weeks! I’ve spent time blogging about that already on the Glatitude site – so no point repeating it too much here – but will recap just a little of what’s going on (See My Week in Younique – a new weekly feature for more details).
I signed up with them at the end of October, and began selling when we launched in the UK November 1.
Got a few orders fairly fast and I qualified as “White status”.
18 days later got my first team mate then quickly got another and another…There are six on my team currently (one may be quitting) and two others who have been recruited by my team. That makes 8 in my company overall. Well, 9 if you include me.
By the end of November I’d reached “Yellow” so got a pay bump from 20% to 25%. Forever. (Yippeee).
Sadly, I missed “Pink” status by a few hundred in November, so my stats reset on December 1st to $0 and I had to start all over again! I was bummed if I am being honest with you. I really wanted to whip out the credit card and self-fund Pink but that defeats the point in running your own business (if you’re your own biggest customer).
Thankfully the month of December (5 days in now) has been good for both myself and my team – so I am quite close to achieving “Pink” already (yippeee again).
The brilliant thing about Pink is that I get a % of my first level’s sales on top of my own 25%!
Are you following all this? It’s not the easiest compensation plan to wrap your head around. I have had to watch many videos to “get it” but I think I have got it – at least until Pink…Don’t ask me about the rest of the rainbow just yet.
Younique Fast Start
There’s one other thing – I believe I am just ONE order away from hitting Fast Start. What is it? It’s another milestone with Younique.
1. $2000 in Personal Retail Sales (PRS) 2. Sponsor at least 3 new Presenters
Once this is achieved, you will be sent a Fast Start Charm, and 250.00/US, 300.00/CAD, 325.00/AUS, 350.00/NZ Younique Cash automatically added to your Back Office.
So I get that $250 as soon as I hit Fast Start – which I am praying is maybe even by tomorrow. I’ll spend at Christmas! I have my idea on the biggest collection – Gimme Everything Collection (pic right)
It’s been a profitable day today. I woke up and I’d made money while I slept (which as you may know is my main aim for all of this).
Another order came in during the day while I was training, and another one tonight. I don’t think that I’m allowed to tell you how much making, due to Ts and Cs, but I can tell you I’ve made my initial investment back in five weeks (multiplied several times!!)
So it’s definitely a Younique Opportunity 🙂
Want to find out a bit more and maybe join my team – theAteam? I’d love to have you (as long as you’re in USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada – just now. (We’ll be expanding no doubt in 2015 – watch this space)
Incidentally as I was writing this blog post, our weekly Younique update has just come in, and we have our very first millionaire in the company…Shari Brown is her name (A fellow Cali gal) and she’s had to earn $83,333.33 in a single month to qualify as “millionaire status”. What an inspiration! Remember it’s only a two year old company. That’s incredible isn’t it? Another reason why I am loving this!
BG Training Winds Down
So today’s Business Gateway course went pretty well. It was SEO – my fave. The room was filled with a fabulous bunch of SMEs and most seemed to enjoy it! just one more Business Gateway training session for 2014. Can’t believe it’s over. Thankfully the 2015 diary already has dates booked in.
This final quarter of the year has made me re-evaluate my career plan. I actually felt pretty burned out on social media.
In 2015 my aim is to still do some social media training – but to focus on my own Younique team rather than do as much as I’ve done for other sources this year.
Generally speaking, it’s been a pleasure teaching – Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Blogging, Youtube, and the e-business courses all over Scotland (from Ayr to Oban) – but some days were more challenging that I’d have liked.
Because these courses can have a range of students from absolute luddites or newbies to more advanced marketers – it was often a challenge to pitch it right! On the same day as the feedback pictured above I also had the worst feedback I’ve ever had. So on days like those, when the audience was so diverse, I’d leave feeling more than a little deflated.
But without fail, (silver linings alert) I’ve never once had a course where I didn’t meet some fabulous people with fantastic businesses. Seriously every single course I’ve ever taught has had wonderful folk in it. I must have trained a thousand businesses this year and some of those trainees have become friends or Younique team mates. So from that stand point, I could not be more grateful for the work I’ve done over the past year (Thanks Gary and Mark especially)…
This week I was able to have a few days of one-to-one training and I think that’s my real passion. It’s bespoke. I can make sure people fully understand and it’s not an impossible dance to please a group of 15-30 people. So I do welcome more one-to-one training this month and next…
OK I have to go now as the laptop’s about out of juice, and I want to watch another episode of the Newsroom. I can’t tell you how happy that show makes me! I just love Aaron Sorkin. Still working my way through Season 4 of the West Wing (though not happy about Rob Lowe’s departure)…
Time to Fly
Here’s a random video you may or may not have seen. Kinda trippy. Enjoy. Until next time, I’m Thea, saying see ya! 🙂
Well I thought I’d do an update on how the week is going. My new venture is plodding along really slow and steady. I am learning as much as I possibly can. I watch loads of videos each night (webinars, tutorials, demos etc) and studying the catalog etc. I’ve created “flash cards” of all the Younique Products – to learn their prices and ingredients.
It feels like I am doing a Younique Degree, (Youniversity!) I tell you…It’s overwhelming on some levels, and yet absolute head-buzzing-excitement on others.
I literally can’t stop thinking about the opportunity – even as I am trying to close my eyes and go to sleep, my mind is just going, going, going!
So you have to sell £125 pounds worth of product to qualify on White Status level. Well, I’ve done that already, hip-hip hooray…
Yesterday morning (Tuesday), I woke up to learn I’d had products ordered while I slept and not only had I achieved “Qualified White Status”, but was paid for the sales into my PayQuicker account by morning! (More info about joining me as a Younique Presenter).
I watched a really inspiring video from the co-founder Melanie this morning which highlights the Younique achievements in such a short space of time (2 years).
They really are rocking all over the world. It’s a staggering-successful company already, and I feel blessed to be in it so early on! (Only 2 years old and less than a week selling in the UK!)
126,202 – Global Younique Presenters!
Can you believe that’s the amount of Younique presenters, today, November 4, 2014? It’s incredible that in just two years they have grown this large! There were just 5,000 presenters last year – so the growth is just exponential!
Plus Younique boasts a 70% Retention rate of its “Active Presenters”. Pretty unheard of in this industry (from what I hear anyway!) Not that I have a ton of experience with the direct sales – this is my first foray into it!
During October 2014, Younique sold $27.9 million in Products, and for November it’s on track to be a $35 million month! I’d like a slice of that – wouldn’t you?
Younique is constantly moving forward as a “Global Seamless Company”. So eventually my team will have members based in the US, UK, Canada Australia or New Zealand, and as Younique expands into other countries, then they too will be apart of this “seamless” mix and hopefully my team! Well that’s the dream!
In Other News…
Well as I type, there are crazy amounts of fireworks going for Guy Fawkes night. I can see some from my sofa – which is handy – as it’s much warmer here than it is out there! That’s for sure.
Yesterday, I did a Youtube session for Business Gateway, Ayrshire and had the most wonderfully-receptive class. Some days it’s a real JOY to be a trainer. Yesterday was one such day.
Then I went out to dinner with a radio colleague in Prestwick. We had a fantastic night.
Now I need to get back to my next presentation – an update of my last Twitter course! You have to update these things often, as they’re always changing! Are you on Twitter? By the way, are we connected? Follow @newthea – if you are!
On last thing….
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want”.
A wonderful quote from one of my faves — Zig Ziglar – author, salesman, motivational speaker. I love that man!
Happy Halloween everyone. So tomorrow Younique UK finally launches (and in Ireland too!) I am excited to be able to promote the various products in earnest!
Since last week’s post on the Reasons I joined Younique, I’ve been busy learning as much as I can about the different products they have on offer. There are so many videos, articles, reviews, presenter phone calls and Facebook groups to be perusing.
The uber popular Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes (which get purchased more than 15,000 units a day), will no doubt be fun, but I am not sure that will be one of my personal faves. I am perhaps more excited about some of the collections – the eye and lipliners and so forth. I am definitely more of a lippy-sort-of gal (in every sense of the world). Ha!
I await my starter kit which has been shipped from Utah. It should be here any day now. I am just trying to build some momentum with my new company! I’ve never done this Multi-Level Marketing or Direct Sales before and frankly it’s a steep learning curve already. It’s even a little daunting.
You can become a part of my Younique UK team as someone who just wants to buy the products to use themselves, someone who wants to sell the products to their family and friends and connections, or as someone who wants to grow a really big team and try to make a living out of it.
For as many people who seem to to do the latter, there seems to be 10000x as many who never make any money at all. I’m trying to work out my best way forward – given I am (hopefully) not a pushy sales person. No one likes to be sold to. I certainly don’t want to be one of those people that my friendly colleagues start to avoid at networking events — #nohardsell is my motto – but of course, some selling will be necessary. It’s all about finding the balance! Right?
