Saturday Spotlight # 1 – More-2-Explore

Welcome to my first ever Saturday Spotlight # 1 on More-2-Explore. More-2-Explore is a company founded by Lucy Bostock. According to this article here, Lucy came up with the idea after getting separated from her child at Legoland.

The More-2-Explore Adventure Belt is an “alternative to traditional toddler reins, children’s harnesses & wrist straps!”. It links the parent to the kid by a belt-to-belt system, hands-free. Now I don’t have kids, but I could see how parents might light this sort of thing.

You can watch this video to see how it works and why not subscribe to the More-2-Explore Youtube Channel:

So that was a short Saturday Spotlight on More-2-Explore. More to come in future posts, on Saturdays. Watch this space as they say.

Cards and Cosmetics

As we’re nearing the holidays, I’ll be ramping up my promotion of Candles and Cosmetics too. I’ve made a video to promote the candles…and been working away on sharing Younique products. This week marks my third anniversary of being a Younique presenter. I can’t believe it’s been that long.

Sadly I am still rather stalled at Blue Status (halfway up the ladder). Be nice to hit Green status but you have to sell $10,000 worth of makeup in one month (your team’s efforts can contribute) so it feels an impossible feat to me!

I’ll be writing my 3rd Youniqueversary post this week to celebrate the milestone over on my Glatitude website.

In Other News…

What else is new? In addition to More-2-Explore, I’ve been working hard with some other fantastic clients too. Have also delivered a few workshops for Business Gateway Ayrshire this month (Linkedin and Canva).  I’ve three more workshops for Renfrewshire and Ayrshire this year and then I’ll stop for the holidays!

Every chance I get I’ve been creating new designs for both the Ralph Says Things Red Bubble store and also my own TNTs Red Bubble Store.

We have had some sales too. I admit I treated myself to an Old’s Cool Ralph Says Shirt on Red Bubble. It’s a new version of the existing design. I added a frame was all. I like it though. Simple but effective. It’s my first ever shirt purchased on Red Bubble – so I look forward to checking the quality. (I have seen other people’s though)

Thanks For Stopping By

Thank you for cruising by my personal blog. It’s likely I’ll be utilising it much more going forward because, as I mentioned in my last post, now that I have a Thea’s Things Facebook page to go along with it.

Facebook being what it is though probably doesn’t show you half the posts so feel free to cruise over to the page and check out the latest posts whenever you can.

And if you have not seen the RalphSaysThings.com or the RST Facebook page – please do!

My New Challenge – Coffee

My New Challenge is...CoffeeMy New Challenge is…Coffee

Well, OK, here we go again. It’s obvious that I do like a new challenge. This time it’s coffee for me, rather ironically. Read on to see what I mean by that…

It may be the time of year…but just to keep things interesting in my life, I am embarking on a new journey…but even so they all seem to come together in a way that makes sense to me.

Exactly two years ago this month I joined Younique and began selling makeup and to be honest, I wasn’t ever really “into makeup”. Truth be told, it’s been a bit of a roller coaster, but overall I am really glad I did it.

To this day, I remain a Presenter/Sponsor – though much less active than I once was.

This is due to a variety of circumstances that I’ll not bore you with now…

Cosmetics to Cards

Then, last year, in October I was delivering some workshops on the Isle of Lewis where  I had a woman on the course who was a Phoenix Trader. I returned back down from Stornoway and without giving it too much thought, I joined Phoenix Trading.

I joined Phoenix not because I wanted to work another business as such. I joined because I enjoy sending greeting cards and, well, I like receiving them too. Who doesn’t?

Anyway joining up made perfect sense. I talk more about that experience on my 1-year Phoenix anniversary. If you are interested on learning more about my experience with that…

As I say, Phoenix has never been a business I’ve actively worked – though I am pleased to be a trader – especially this time of year! (By the way, do you need any Christmas cards or wrap?) The cards are lovely and it’s a fun little business to run regardless.

There are some wonderfully creative people who run Phoenix businesses…I simply joined for personal consumption – not to work it. Like Younique I get a commission or discount on all purchases, ergo, a no brainer!

Life Changes, Swiftly Sometimes

So over the last six months a few interesting things have happened that have altered the course I was on.

The first one was that I was assigned a Coffee company as a client by Business Gateway. (I am a consultant for Business Gateway Lanarkshire). This gentleman made a casual remark one day – that I should bring out my own coffee to sell on So You’ve Been Dumped.

An interesting idea, I thought, but I don’t even drink coffee or know a thing about it…(a little like starting a makeup business)…

The second thing that happened, around the same time, was that my Younique blog, got shut down by HQ. (Oops).

At the time, I was very angry, frustrated, and a little depressed as I shut down the blog and lost all that traffic. I’d taken the blog from a few hundred visits a month (like this one) to around ten thousand monthly visits in the space of a year or so.

Anyway those two experiences combined together and got me thinking, a lot.

I’d realised that I’d like to be working hard on my own business – one that I control. My preference would be something that is not sanctioned or needing approval from anyone else.

In this case that was my sixteen-year-old website SYBD (which as around fifty thousand visits a month)…

I’ve spent many dozens of hours the past few months focusing on getting that site to be operating at its best. (Still a lot of work to go but little by little I am getting there…)

Cue Coffee

So this brings us today. Here is where my new line of Coffee comes in. It has been inspired by SYBD and will be created for anyone who needs a boost for any reason – relationship challenges, health issues, career stress, or anything.

One of the best things is that it’s finally a business my dad could fully embrace.

Younique Dad - Touch Foundation

He’s not a big fan of cards or being the guinea pig for my cosmetics. But coffee….Well coffee he can fully support. So he is currently the only person I’ve told the name of my new coffee. He’s been helping me with some words for describing the strength. It’s finally a business we can bond over – even from five thousand miles away.

Can’t wait to get him some coffee to try. Can’t wait for you to try it too. So excited…Even more excited to allow some friends to taste it at a Gilmore Girls night I’m hosting in Glasgow on Black Friday…but that’s a post for another day. Thanks for stopping by…

December Already? My Younique Update 1 Month In

The Gimme Everything Collection from Younique

So I was teaching the Improve your Search Engine Rankings today and rather embarrassingly showed my blog (to illustrate the difference of landing on a “home” page versus a latest posts page) and realized I’ve not updated for a month. How on earth did that happen?

I’ve been getting my head down and building my Younique Business for the last five weeks! I’ve spent time blogging about that already on the Glatitude site – so no point repeating it too much here – but will recap just a little of what’s going on (See My Week in Younique – a new weekly feature for more details).

My Younique Journey – Five Weeks On

Ok, to update on my last blog 5 Days In With Younique:

  • I signed up with them at the end of October, and began selling when we launched in the UK November 1.
  • Got a few orders fairly fast and I qualified as “White status”.
  • 18 days later got my first team mate then quickly got another and another…There are six on my team currently (one may be quitting) and two others who have been recruited by my team. That makes 8 in my company overall. Well, 9 if you include me.
  • By the end of November I’d reached “Yellow” so got a pay bump from 20% to 25%. Forever. (Yippeee).

Thea Newcomb - Officially Younique Level Presenter
Sadly, I missed “Pink” status by a few hundred in November, so my stats reset on December 1st to $0 and I had to start all over again! I was bummed if I am being honest with you. I really wanted to whip out the credit card and self-fund Pink but that defeats the point in running your own business (if you’re your own biggest customer).

Thankfully the month of December (5 days in now) has been good for both myself and my team – so I am quite close to achieving “Pink” already (yippeee again).

The brilliant thing about Pink is that I get a % of my first level’s sales on top of my own 25%!

Are you following all this? It’s not the easiest compensation plan to wrap your head around. I have had to watch many videos to “get it” but I think I have got it – at least until Pink…Don’t ask me about the rest of the rainbow just yet.

Younique Fast Start

There’s one other thing – I believe I am just ONE order away from hitting Fast Start. What is it? It’s another milestone with Younique.

1. $2000 in Personal Retail Sales (PRS)
2. Sponsor at least 3 new Presenters

Once this is achieved, you will be sent a Fast Start Charm, and 250.00/US, 300.00/CAD, 325.00/AUS, 350.00/NZ Younique Cash automatically added to your Back Office.

The Gimme Everything Collection from YouniqueSo I get that $250 as soon as I hit Fast Start – which I am praying is maybe even by tomorrow. I’ll spend at Christmas!  I have my idea on the biggest collection – Gimme Everything Collection (pic right)

It’s been a profitable day today. I woke up and I’d made money while I slept (which as you may know is my main aim for all of this).

Another order came in during the day while I was training, and another one tonight. I don’t think that I’m allowed to tell you how much making, due to Ts and Cs, but I can tell you I’ve made my initial investment back in five weeks (multiplied several times!!)

So it’s definitely a Younique Opportunity 🙂

Want to find out a bit more and maybe join my team – theAteam? I’d love to have you (as long as you’re in USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada – just now. (We’ll be expanding no doubt in 2015 – watch this space)

Incidentally as I was writing this blog post, our weekly Younique update has just come in, and we have our very first millionaire in the company…Shari Brown is her name (A fellow Cali gal) and she’s had to earn $83,333.33 in a single month to qualify as “millionaire status”. What an inspiration! Remember it’s only a two year old company. That’s incredible isn’t it? Another reason why I am loving this!

BG Training Winds Down

So today’s Business Gateway course went pretty well. It was SEO – my fave. The room was filled with a fabulous bunch of SMEs and most seemed to enjoy it! just one more Business Gateway training session for 2014. Can’t believe it’s over. Thankfully the 2015 diary already has dates booked in.

This final quarter of the year has made me re-evaluate my career plan. I actually felt pretty burned out on social media.

In 2015 my aim is to still do some social media training – but to focus on my own Younique team rather than do as much as I’ve done for other sources this year.

Feedback - Business Gateway Ayrshire Twitter
Twitter, BG Ayr 2014

Generally speaking, it’s been a pleasure teaching – Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Blogging, Youtube, and the e-business courses all over Scotland (from Ayr to Oban) –  but some days were more challenging that I’d have liked.

Because these courses can have a range of students from absolute luddites or newbies to more advanced marketers – it was often a challenge to pitch it right! On the same day as the feedback pictured above I also had the worst feedback I’ve ever had. So on days like those, when the audience was so diverse, I’d leave feeling more than a little deflated.

But without fail, (silver linings alert) I’ve never once had a course where I didn’t meet some fabulous people with fantastic businesses. Seriously every single course I’ve ever taught has had wonderful folk in it. I must have trained a thousand businesses this year and some of those trainees have become friends or Younique team mates. So from that stand point, I could not be more grateful for the work I’ve done over the past year (Thanks Gary and Mark especially)…

This week I was able to have a few days of one-to-one training and I think that’s my real passion. It’s bespoke. I can make sure people fully understand and it’s not an impossible dance to please a group of 15-30 people. So I do welcome more one-to-one training this month and next…

OK I have to go now as the laptop’s about out of juice, and I want to watch another episode of the Newsroom. I can’t tell you how happy that show makes me! I just love Aaron Sorkin. Still working my way through Season 4 of the West Wing (though not happy about Rob Lowe’s departure)…

Time to Fly

Here’s a random video you may or may not have seen. Kinda trippy. Enjoy. Until next time, I’m Thea, saying see ya! 🙂

7 Reasons I Signed up With Younique

Why I Became a Younique Presenter

My friend Cathie was over last week and we were talking about Multi-Level Marketing Companies (MLMs) in general. I’ve got several friends who do various different ones (beauty products, money saving ones etc). As someone who’d like to build a passive income business, I’ve been on the look out for years. I needed to find one that was right for me, but expressed a desire to find one where I could get in at the ground level. By that I mean before everyone has already heard about it – or knew someone doing it already…

Cathie then mentioned a friend of hers in the Highlands, Joanna, who was doing “something to do with makeup” – according to what she’d read on her Facebook timeline.

So we had a look at Joanna’s timeline and there it was – Younique Products. It’s an American company that is two years old and already has grown to seventy-five million there, but has yet to launch here in the UK! It’s on target to being the fastest-growing Direct Sales company in history. That’s some feat!

“Wow this could be a good fit.” I thought to myself…

Not because I am a big make-up fiend, (if you know me, you’ll know I’m not super knowledgable on the matter), but because it’s an amazing opportunity. They market solely through Social Media (something I know a thing or two about) and they sell in various countries around the world.

My website soyouvebeendumped.com is global and what do women who’ve been dumped need after a break up? But a wee boost to their self-esteem. They need to feel sexy and empowered! Not just dumped women – but most women!

So I did what any self-respecting, potential, distributor (called “Presenters” for Younique) would do – I researched for days on end.

I learned that their biggest selling product is their Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes. They sell 15,000 of these bad boys a day and I want a piece of that action, my friends. I watched videos on how to apply it. I read countless reviews – most were positive (but not all)…and just tried to get a feel for the company.

I contacted one lovely girl – back home in the San Francisco Bay Area, Robin, and she spoke highly of Younique. It all started to sway me – even if still a little skeptical.

A few days later I spoke to Cathie’s friend Joanna at length, and by the end of the call I said I was interested in being a part of her team! I signed up when we hung up and I am happy to report that I am number nine for her team, in the 3000s for the UK, and in the 120,000 range globally.

7 Reasons I Decided to join Younique:

Two days ago, I decided to become a Younique Presenter for a variety of reasons and here are some of the main reasons below…

1) Low Barriers To Entry.
Younique has a low sign-up rate. It costs just £69.00 +£10.00 forYounique Presenters Starts Kid  the Presenter Kit’s shipping. That was affordable to me – so I figured, in the worse case scenario, at least I’d walk away with a bunch of make up and a cool box. (See pic)

In the box is “Everything You Need to Get Started”:

  • 3D Fiber Lashes
  • Uplift Eye Serum †
  • Glorious Face & Eye Primer
  • Lucrative Lip Gloss – Luxe ‡
  • Moodstruck Precision Pencil Eye Liners – set of 3 (Perfect, Pristine, Prim)
  • White Status Charm (on purple ring)
  • Free business website
  • Instant Access to the Younique Virtual Party System™ (start hosting parties immediately)
  • £20 GBP Younique Cash on your birthday, annually
  • PayQuicker Younique bank account
  • Presenter Guide
  • All of this comes in our signature black faux leather,  embossed Younique case

I can’t wait to receive that kit! What fun!

NOTE: The presenter’s kit has changed since the time of writing this blog. Click the image to view more details about it (on Google+).

2) A Great Mission! I liked really like Younique’s mission. So much so – it’s in perfect alignment with mine for So You’ve Been Dumped. Effectively they aim to  “uplift, empower, and validate women everywhere”. You can read more about Younique’s Mission here…and as I said, it’s a similar aim – which I want for the women and the men on my site, too!

3) Satisfaction Guaranteed! (Updated) Before I tried the products, I read hundreds of reviews across the web (not all favorable I hasten to add!) It was more positive than negative out there. Most-importantly, because they want their customers to be so happy with their products, they have a good money-back guarantee. (Since I’ve joined I’ve tried MOST of the products and am very happy with all of them so far!)

Younique guarantees satisfaction - their products - check this out!

 4) Younique Mostly Markets Online.
Unlike many of other MLMs it’s among the first who do all their promotion totally online via Social Media. Hey ho, guess what, I am a Social Media Trainer – so it sure feels like a good fit that way too! So basically all my parties are online. Here is the link to Thea’s Younique Launch  Party!

If you’re in the US/Canada or Australia/NZ, you can buy already, but for UK it’s pre-orders only just now. They’ll be shipping products from 1 Nov. How exciting is that??

5) Younique has a Proven Track Record.
Well, ok, they’re not as long established as some of your other MLM beauty brands, but the fact they’ve grown as far as they have in two years is super-encouraging, to me. I suspect they’ll still be here this time next year which is a good thing.

6) Youniques’ Structure’s Enticing.
You start at White as an “Entry Presenter” and work your way up the way to Black an “Exclusive Presenter”.  It’s a transparent and simple plan. Well almost…I like that it’s not that you’re just earning on the recruits you bring in but the ones they bring in too, and the ones they bring in, and so on! Deep levels!

younique's royalty plans

7) The Royalties!
When you make a sale, Younique thinks you deserve your money as quickly as possible! Receiving royalties is quick and easy and within three hours of making a sale! My earnings from sales are deposited into my very own PayQuicker account!A Younique Presenters Master Card

To be honest that shocked me a little. It sounded a little too good to be true – so I was thinking “what if people return the items?” But Joanna assures me they’d just settle (deduct) royalties with future sales on my account.  Awesome!

Now I am YOUNIQUE – You Can Be Too 🙂

jointheateamSo with all the info, I was happy to give it a whirl! Apart from my time and £79.00 ($99) – I’d really have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.  If it sounds like something you want to try too, wherever you are in the world – you can be apart of my team. I’d love to have you. I don’t expect I’ll be pushing the team aspect too much. My whole ethos for this is NO HARD SELL – #nohardsell. No one likes pushy people or hard sales so this will be case of softly softly. So click the image above or join Younique Team Thea here.

I’ll write again this weekend – or early next week – when the kit arrives. Hey check out my presenter’s kit “unboxing video” – though some of the contents have changed.
