Say Hello to Canva’s New AI Video Effects

Say Hello to Canva's AI Video Effects - so fun

Canva’s New AI Video Effects (And Why You May Burn Through Credits Fast)

Last month at Canva Create, we saw the unveiling of some fun new additions to Canva’s video library.

Short, punchy, slightly addictive templates that turn a simple photo into something a bit more… scroll-stopping.

I started seeing them pop up all over my feed and immediately wanted to try them myself.

Only problem? I didn’t have access to them.

Alas… they’ve now landed in my account (even on the free plan), and I finally got to have a play.

A quick word of warning…

If you’re on Canva Free, you’ll burn through your credits fast.

Three videos in and… you’re done for the month.

So just be aware of that before you get carried away.

(And yes, this is where Canva Pro starts to make a bit more sense.)

Where to find them

From the Canva homepage:

  • Click Templates
  • Look just below Explore Templates
  • If you’ve got access, you’ll see them there

Click See All to browse the full range currently available.

As always with Canva…this may move. They like to keep us on our toes.

Templates I tried

Cloud Cruise

This was the first one I kept seeing everywhere. Driving through pink clouds, very dreamy, very Instagram.

To use it, just click the template, upload your photo, and Canva does the rest.

It’s almost suspiciously easy.

AI Photo Booth

Next up, the Photo Booth.

I used a photo of my high school bestie Nicki after we’d just been to a Californian boardwalk and refused to pay $7 for actual photos.

Canva to the rescue.

Photo Copier

I also had to try the copier effect.

I used an AI version of my dad wearing a Totally Content sweatshirt in a record shop.

Honestly… he’d have absolutely rocked it.

This one’s properly fun.

Final thoughts

These are not “serious design tools”.

They’re quick, fun, and designed to get attention.

Perfect for social content. Slightly dangerous for your monthly credits.

If you’ve got access, go have a play.

If not, they’re still rolling out… so keep your eyes peeled.

And if you do get hooked, Canva Pro will give you a lot more breathing room with credits.
