How to Use Canva's Magic Video - Make Reels and Shorts in a Flash

Canva’s Magic Design for Video

If you blink, you might miss it. That’s how fast and fun Canva’s Magic Design for Video can be. Whether you’re making Reels, Shorts, or a quick promo for your business, this clever AI tool takes the guesswork out of the process. With just a few clicks, you can turn a bunch of photos into a slick little video, complete with music, transitions, and text. No editing skills needed. Just a few images and a bit of imagination.

Step-by-Step: How to Use Canva Magic Design for Video

1. Log in to Canva
Head to canva.com and log into your account. You’ll need to be logged in for the Magic Design for Video feature to work. It’s available on both Free and Pro plans, though having a Pro account gives you more template and music options.

2. Choose a Video Format
From the homepage, select Video. You can pick standard formats like 1920×1080 (YouTube), 1080×1080 (Instagram Feed), or 1080×1920 (Reels or Shorts). If you’re not sure, go vertical — it works everywhere these days.

3. Upload Your Images
Click Uploads and drop in 3 to 10 images you want to use in your video. These could be product photos, behind-the-scenes snaps, event highlights, or anything that fits a story or theme. Keep in mind: Canva’s AI will stitch them together, so choose a set that flows.

4. Launch Magic Design for Video
After uploading your images, Canva might offer the Magic Design option right away. If it doesn’t, go to the Apps tab on the left, search for Magic Design for Video, and launch it manually. Select the images you want to include and hit Continue.

5. Let the AI Build Your Video
Canva will automatically create a few video options for you — complete with animated transitions, text overlays, background music, and scene pacing. It’s surprisingly polished right out of the gate. Click through the previews and pick the one that feels right.

6. Customise Your Video
Once you’ve chosen a layout, the real fun begins. Update the messaging, swap fonts, change the background track, or even add your own branding. You can also replace clips, tweak timing, and apply filters or effects to suit your style. Pro tip: If the music’s a bit much, swap it or mute it entirely — sometimes less is more.

7. Download or Share
Once you’re happy with the final cut, click Share or Download. Export it as an MP4 file and you’re good to go. You can also schedule it right inside Canva to post to your Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, or YouTube accounts – handy if you’re batch-creating content.

You know what? You could even consider downloading the slides as a PDF for a Linkedin carouself (no music obviously) or PNG for Instagram (add music in Instagram). Repurposing content is always a good idea, eh?

Well that’s all for now…
