My Canva Wrap 2024 Exciting Droptober Updates

As the year’s end approaches, I thought it might be fun to do a little Canva Wrap 2024 post as they seem to be all the rage. After all, it has been a busy few months with Droptober Updates in Canva. Not only that, Community Labs were held across the globe. I’ll talk about the London event later, but let’s kick off with some of my personal favourites of the Droptober updates – such as Page Numbers and Dream Labs – to name a few. Are you ready for my Canva Wrap 2024? Then, let’s go! First up, it’s Page Numbers – hooray!

Page Numbers

This is easily one of the most requested Canva features I’ve seen in the last decade or so. As someone who not only creates books in Canva but teaches others how to do so too, this is an absolute game-changer! (I need to find a fresh way to describe updates like this—it’s starting to feel repetitive!)

Page numbers in Canva now. Find them under Text.

Why This Is Cool:

To some, page numbers might seem like a small update, but for anyone working on books, newsletters, workbooks, or presentations, or any other multi-page doc type, they’re a huge timesaver.

No more manually numbering pages or losing track when editing—Canva does it all for you. Perfect for creators and educators who want a polished and professional look.

To use page numbers:

  • Open a design
  • Click on the Text option
  • Scroll down and you’ll find them there.

Dream Lab: Unlock Beta Tools and Explore New Possibilities

Dream Lab is powered by Leonardo AI, a recent Canva acquisition. This is an amazing integration which is super fun and worthy of some play. If you’re on Pro you’ll get 500 credits to play with. If you’re on a team that’s 500 for each of you. Canva FREE users get 25 to play with.

Why This Is Cool:

Dream Lab is where the magic happens! This feature gives you access to experimental tools that are still in development. From generating stunning images to testing out innovative design features, It’s a creative playground for early adopters and design enthusiasts who love being ahead of the curve.

Polls & Quizzes: Engage Your Audience Like Never Before

Do you create any kind of interactive content? Are you a trainer, facilitator or event manager? Then this one is for you. I love this new Canva feature update. As someone who has written several quiz books now, I am thinking about new and interesting ways I can repurpose my quiz book content and breathe new life into it

Why This Is Cool:

Whether you’re a content creator, trainer, or marketer, Polls and Quizzes offer a fun and interactive way to connect with your audience. You can gather feedback, spark discussions, or just entertain! Learn more about Canva’s Polls and Quizzes here.

Bonus: I tested it with a poll about LinkedIn pet peeves – if you’re on there, I’d love your input, please vote below!

Captions: Make Your Videos Accessible and Impactful

Honestly, I haven’t been much of a video maker before, but I’ve recently started to embrace it. I am especially focused on my Totally Content channel where I share “Record Hauls & Adventures” videos. This new feature of one-click Captions is an absolute game changer.

Why This Is Cool:

Adding captions to videos has never been easier. With just one click, Canva auto-generates subtitles, saving you tons of time. This feature is a game-changer for creating content that’s accessible to all audiences, especially when videos are often watched on mute. I’ve already started using this daily for my Totally Content videos!

Custom Mockups: Create Mockups That Are Uniquely Yours

As a long time “merch designer”, I use mockups almost daily. (Note: If you don’t know – merch often means tshirts, mugs, stickers, hoodies, baseball hats and so forth…essentially any kind of merchandise).

Over the years I’ve used them from many different sites but now in addition to the video mockups you can see in Canva, there’s the opportunity to make your own with Canva’s Custom Mockups.

As a merch designer, I use mockups almost daily. Over the years I’ve used them from many different sites but now in addition to the video mocksups you can see in Canva, there’s the opportunity to make your own with Canva’s Custom Mockups.

Why This Is Cool:

Gone are the days of relying on generic mockup templates! Canva now lets you upload your own images and turn them into custom mockups. Show off your designs in real-world settings that match your brand. This feature is still rolling out, but it’s a must-have for anyone who sells products, shares designs, or needs something beyond cookie-cutter visuals.

One More Bonus – A Motion Type App

I couldn’t help but add a new App I discovered on Instagram. Well, c’mon, it’s hard to keep up with over 300 Canva Apps available now! This one is all about motion text and it’s pretty fun.

Canva Community Labs – London

In November, Canva’s London HQ in Hoxton Square hosted its second Community Labs event of 2024. While I delivered a short training at the May event, this time I joined a Q&A panel with fellow Canva Verified Experts Darren (a Welshman in England) and Robson (a Brazilian in Ireland). As a Californian living in Scotland, alongside Hadas and David, who also flew in from outside the UK, it felt like a true United Nations gathering of creative minds!

The questions at this event were more technical, so I didn’t feel as helpful as I’d hoped, though I did manage to share one solid tip about exploring Canva Apps. Still, it was a fantastic opportunity to connect with my fellow CVEs and other members of the Canva community.

Now, I’m looking ahead to Canva Create!

Canva Create 2025

I’ve attended the London Canva Create events in the past, but next year’s might be my first in-person experience in Los Angeles. Tickets for the in-person event are on sale now, but if LA isn’t an option for you, you can snag a FREE virtual ticket instead!
