My Carousel Studio Deep-Dive

Have you ever spent hours wrestling with a single Instagram or LinkedIn carousel? You’re not alone. Carousel Studio, a Canva app that uses AI to generate full carousels from a single prompt, promises to change that completely.

When the creator invited me to try it out, I was curious to see if it really could turn one sentence into a polished carousel in seconds.

I’m Thea Newcomb, a Canva Verified Expert, and here’s how I used it to make some content to promote my small business (analogue to digital tape transfer service). This post contains affiliate links.

Why Carousel Studio? (The Pro Advantage)

In Canva, you can always start from a blank canvas or a generic carousel template, but both of those methods still require a fair bit of manual “nudging”.

Carousel Studio is different, because it’s built specifically for creators and social media managers who value speed and consistency.

Step 1: Finding the App

You can access Carousel Studio in a few ways. From the Canva home page, click the three dots down the left hand sidebar (see picture above) which will take you to canva.com/your-apps and all you need to do is starty typing ‘Carousel’ and it will pop up.

Alternatively, you can access Carousel Studio by opening any size document in Canva. I’d recommend Instagram, Presentation size or Square.

Once inside the editor, click Apps from the lefthand sidebar. Search for Carousel Studio.

Step 2: From Prompt to Design

Simply type in your topic. For my test, I used: “Why you should digitise your VHS tapes before they degrade.”

I usually select 5 slides. The app then adds an intro and an outro, giving you a perfect 7-page carousel.

Credits: 1 slide = 1 credit, but the intro and outtro slides don’t cost any credits.

Step 3: Customising the Look

The app isn’t just a “black box”—you have total control over the vibe:

• Themes: Choose patterns like slants, concentric circles, or diagonal lines.
• Typography: Set your heading (up to 78pt) and body sizes.
• Profile Styles: Choose how your social handles appear (pills, circles, or arrows).

Step 4: The Final Expert Polish

Once generated, the slides appear directly in your Canva document. They are 100% editable. I like to tweak the colours (using my “Change All” trick for high-contrast black and white or red) and drag in my own brand assets or photos to make it pop.

So for my carousel I added some old tape, my logo and a picture of me to my opening slide too – just to make it more “me”.

Bonus Tip: Turn it into Video!

Don’t stop at static slides – go dynamic. Did you know that you can select your pages, hit Magic Animate and download it as an MP4.

Now you have a high-energy Reel, Short or TikTok video in place of a simple carousel!
