Say “Hey” to @Mixes By Thea

Hey y’all, gather ’round as we dive into Mixes by Thea, my latest passion project about music, nostalgia, and joy. Today’s post is a bit more personal, aimed at my family, friends, and those curious souls who like to pop by thinking, “I wonder what Thea’s up to now?”

I can’t tell you how many times, even in the past week people have exclaimed, ‘Thea, you’re always doing something!’ or have told me that I ‘never stop’. To be fair, that’s absolutely right. Whether it’s volunteering at a local community garden, experimenting with my new air fryer (thanks to my big sister Wendy!), or crafting the perfect mixtape, I’m powered by passion and creativity. And now, I’m excited to share my Mixcloud journey, filled with 80s-themed compilations, eclectic radio shows (old and new!), and musical memories that will transport you back in time. If you love music as much as I do, you won’t want to miss out on this retro ride.

For those who might be unfamiliar, Mixcloud.com, launched in London in ’08 and is an amazing platform that brings together DJs, radio hosts, and music enthusiasts from around the globe. It’s a virtual hub for exploring fresh beats, revisiting classic tunes, and even hosting live shows. On it, I’ll be sharing specially curated mixtapes, some radio archives, and perhaps, once I get the hang of it, live shows that will connect us in real-time.

It’s more than just a platform; it’s a community. It allows artists and fans to interact, engage, and celebrate music in its many splendid forms. My profile will not just be a collection of tracks but a journey through time and emotions, from my teenage years’ mixtapes, college radio days right up to the current explorations. So, if you’re in the mood for a melodious adventure, stay tuned to ‘Mixes by Thea,’ where every beat is a piece of my heart, and every playlist is a chapter in my story

Be Ready for Varied Quality

As we journey through ‘Mixes by Thea,’ expect a vibrant tapestry of sound, ranging from the charmingly warbly quality of old cassette tapes (like the gem from 1985 that’s playing right now!) to the sleek studio sound of shows recorded at prominent radio stations like Radio Six International, Scot FM, or Q96 FM. This variety in sound quality isn’t just a feature; it’s part of the nostalgia and charm. From vintage audio treasures to crystal-clear contemporary recordings, each piece captures a unique moment in time.

Whether you’re a fan of retro radio shows or modern mixtapes, there’s something to delight every ear in this eclectic collection.

I’ve kicked off with just two uploads – 1) a really old bedroom mixtape and 2) my most recent radio show from 6 June 2023. I’ll aim to release one of each every week going forward – all being well…I’ve a bank of five mixtapes so far and it’s been absolute joy listening to each and everyone. Hope others feel the same.

Do you love the sounds of the 80s too? If so, be sure to check out my eighties inspired nostalgic books. My Totally Content Books brand has released word searches, quizzes and activity books too.

Here’s my first mix. Sound quality is a bit ropey at the start but it levels out (sorta) 🙂

And here’s my Mixcloud recap of week 1 and the recap of my Week 2 is here.
